St Patrick’s day, is a religious and cultural celebration that takes place on the 17th of March. It is a day that is celebrated all over the world in many different ways, however, there is usually one common theme and that is the color green, Leprechauns, Shamrocks and Rainbows. 

It is a great day to spend with family and friends, and often food is the center of these celebrations. Kids love doing crafts for this occasion, sweets and treats will be well deserved once they are finished.

So you may be on the hunt for some St Patrick’s day themed sweets. I have a very easy, simple recipe that will be great for any St Patrick’s Day Party. These Oreo Truffles look so yummy, they taste delicious, really are very simple and straightforward to make. The kids will love them as well as the adults and teens. So if you are looking for a quick and easy St Patrick’s Day treat recipe this is for you.

How to make these St Paddy’s Oreo Truffles

Now that you have all the ingredients, you are ready to make these Oreo Truffles

  1. Add cookies to a food processor, or if you prefer you can use a plastic ziploc bag to crush the oreo cookies into crumbs.
  2. In a glass bowl mix the cookie crumbs and cream cheese together until they are completely mixed.
  3. Use a tablespoon to measure the cookie mixture to form 1 inch balls, then set on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  4. Put in the refrigerate or freeze for approx 20 minutes.
  5. Add the white chopped chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and heat for 30 second intervals, stirring between each heating session, until the chocolate is completely melted.
  6. Remove the cookie balls from the refrigerator or freezer, and dip them into the chocolate, coating the entire ball. Set on a parchment lined baking sheet and top with St Patrick’s themed sprinkles.

While the recipe itself might be straightforward, I wanted to share with you some of the recipe notes and tips that could make creating these delicious St Patrick’s Day Oreo Truffles even easier. 

  • This is likely to be a recipe that you can children involved with and they will love decorating the St Paddy’s Truffles. Just keep an eye on them as they may want to eat the truffle dough before you get chance to roll into balls
  • Go crazy with the theme. You could seek out holiday-themed sprinkles or just be consistent with the colors to ensure that St Patricks Day is evident

Variations to try

Like with many recipes there will always be variations to try. Here are a few suggestions. 

  • Don’t like white chocolate, not a problem. You could do this recipe with any chocolate you like. or why not add some green food coloring to the white chocolate so they are green truffles and you can still add the themed sprinkles
  • This Oreo Truffles can work with any theme. Switch out the green for red, and find heart-shaped sprinkles and you can have yourself Valentine’s Day Oreo Truffles, or even try red white and blue for a 4th of July themed party. Or you could look at using a multitude of colors and have a rainbow theme instead. This could work with anything, so try these for a few different occasions I am sure your guests will love them.
  • If you can’t find St Patrick’s day themed sprinkles then just stick with the color theme to emphasize that the Oreo Truffles is to represent St Patrick’s Day 
  • You could even make these into St Patrick’s Day Cake pops by adding a cake pop stick to them

Can it be made ahead of time?

As the St Patrick’s Day Oreo Truffles need time to set in the refrigerator, the longer you leave this to do the better. So it will always be advised to make this ahead of when you need it for your guests. Doing it the day before would be best.

It would be advisable to store the St Paddy’s day Truffles in an airtight container in your fridge.

How long will the St Patrick’s Day Oreo Truffles last?

I don’t see that the St Patricks Day Truffles will last too long as they are so yummy, but if you can contain the temptation to eat it all in one sitting, then you can store it as suggested above for up to 2 weeks.
