How To Potty Train A Strong Willed Child In 7 Days [Can Be Done in 3 days]
Potty Training aagghh! No !Help! Mess! Stressful!
The thought of potty training can drive you to despair BUT it doesn’t have to be that hard or bad.
I am sure you will have so many people putting their 2 cents in on how to potty train a child and then if you have a stubborn, strong willed child, then it all seems so much harder but it doesn’t have to be.
First just breathe!
I had 2 kids with completely different temperaments and personalities. My son was a dare devil but a pretty cool mild tempered kid, he walked at 10 months old, slept in a big bed by 20 months old and was fully potty trained at 2 with it only taking him less than a week to train. Obviously he was ready and we never looked back.
My daughter on the other hand is stubborn, strong willed [but has the biggest heart.] Everything had to be done on her terms and in her own time, if you told her to do something she would do the opposite, she would only do things when she was ready. So trying to get her potty trained oh my that was a mission, after a couple of failed attempts and all my friends and family having a say on how it should be done, we decided to wait until she told us she was ready and when that happened she pretty much did it overnight.
PHEW thank goodness for that.
She did have a few set backs in the next few years as we moved states and houses and that was massive for a little one, but we just ran with it and it all worked out perfectly.
Now don’t despair if your child doesn’t show signs or refuses to go on the potty or toilet this is completely normal and you really need to be OK with that.
These are some of the most common questions Moms ask:
- How to actually potty train a strong willed child in 3 days?

Strong willed child potty training can be tricky but it really is worth sticking to it to get the full benefit in just 7 days. Potty training strong willed child, you think you have it tough, you wonder how you will manage it, you think this is so hard – wait til they are teenagers. At what age should a child be potty trained?
This is the most important question as you don’t want to train your child too quickly if they are not ready.
If they don’t show signs that they know they pooped or done pee in their diapers then they are too young. Kids need to understand the feeling/sensation of going to the toilet in their diapers, so they have some idea of when to go on the potty.
Please don’t try and push your child to be ready either as that will surely back fire ask me how I know??
From 18 months to 3 years is ideally the perfect time to potty train.

Some of the common questions you have will be answered in the 2 books I have recommended above and I am sure you will find so many other books you can read. I really think it is important to get yourself prepared before you embark on this fun journey you ave to stay focused and positive, you child will pick up on any negative thoughts and feeling you have around potty training.
You must remember that when you plan to start you have loads of time on your hands and you have patience. You must give positive reinforcement and stick to your rules, keep reading your books and remember you child stubborn or not will let you now when they are ready and when that happens you will find the whole thing a lot easier.
Be prepared for accidents as it is going to happen but don’t yell at you child as this will make things worse. See if they will help you clean it up, they may think yuk that is disgusting and that might trigger it in them to go to the toilet. Wearing undies will also help as they will feel it if they go, yes you will probably need a billion pairs of undies and they will go through a lot in the first few days but it will helps so much.
You got this mamma, just be consistent, strong willed as well and try and make the whole experience fun.
How often should I put my child on the potty?
This is a question that get asked a lot by Moms who are potty training their child. I would say about every 20 minutes you should be asking them if they need to go as kids get so engrossed in play time that they forget so you have to remind them. If you are following along with the above books and what to complete your potty training in 3-7 days then you have to be very consistent so your child starts to understand the concept of having to go to the potty.
It is all a learning curve for kids just like everything they do. You have to be patient and always be on top of it. Please don’t be that parent who get distracted with their phone for hours on end and the get mad when your child pees on the floor. Please make this time about them and really put in the effort with them. It will only take 3-7 days even if your child is strong willed it can be done but you have to want it as well and put in the time and effort.
You can always put you phone alarm on for every 20-30 minutes as a reminded.
Why not get your child ones of these cool potty training watches. They will feel very important if they have a big kids watch, you know positive reinforcement and reminding them what BIG KIDS they are, are all steps in the right direction.
